Dr. Melman graduated from Lower Merion High School and then attended the University of South Florida and Boston University. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977, and then completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1978, Barry joined Dr. Morty Melman (his father) and Dr. Jim Kippen in private practice, and continued his affiliation with Penn Dental by teaching part-time as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry. After many years of teaching, he left the University to focus on full-time patient care.
Barry has been a member of the Academy of General Dentistry since 1977, and belongs to numerous other dental organizations. These memberships allow him to continue his commitment to continuing education and to enhance his delivery of state-of-the-art patient care.
Barry was voted a Best of Philly dentist in 2012, and again in 2016.
